Skipper's delight at triple swoop

Team building for the 2014 Lake Garage CLL season has received a triple boost.

Three high profile signings to go with the recruitment of Josh Tolley as professional and the return of Simon Wright as captain means we will start the new campaign as favourites for promotion to the Premier Division.

Denis Louis, overseas amateur for the last two seasons, will come back for a third summer.  The West Indian, who hit a club-record 167 against Oldham last term, had indicated he hoped to return to Glebe Street.

Perhaps more surprising is our capture of former Bamford Fieldhouse duo Marlon Black and Mel Austin.  Black (38) a former West Indies star who played in six Test matches and five ODIs, is still a potent weapon with his medium fast bowling.  A former professional at Bamford, he played as an amateur at Hollin Lane in recent seasons.

All-rounder Austin (51) and former Heyside professional is still highly regarded in local cricketing circles and of course, he will bring a wealth of experience.  Mel was also part of the Bamford success story before their expulsion from the Saddleworth and District League.

Si Wright said "Denis will miss the first two or three  games, but I am not too concerned about that as I am just glad to get him back here.

He became friends with Marlon and Mel when he came to watch Bamford last summer.  Marlon and Mel were looking for somewhere to play and as they were friends with Denis and also knew Josh and me, they agreed to come to Crompton.

Everyone is really up for the new season and, to be honest, I am looking forward to it more than I have for years."
